31 Fireball Bottles Found After Woman Allegedly Drove Across Polk County Golf Course

BOWLING GREEN, FL – A 34-year-old Palmetto woman was arrested on DUI charges after deputies say she drove across a golf course at Streamsong Golf Resort near Bowling Green while allegedly impaired.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash around 6:54 p.m. on May 14, 2026. When deputies arrived, they found a red 2018 Hyundai on a sidewalk and the driver, identified as 34-year-old Erika Mayer of Palmetto, sitting next to the vehicle.

According to PCSO, a witness reported seeing Mayer driving across one of the golf courses at the resort prior to the crash.

Deputies said Mayer was not injured but appeared incoherent, unbalanced, and had slurred speech. Authorities also reported smelling the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath, though Mayer denied consuming alcohol.

During the investigation, deputies located an unopened 10-pack of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey mini bottles, 21 opened 50-milliliter Fireball bottles, and two empty 99 Brand liqueur bottles inside the vehicle.

PCSO said Mayer refused to participate in field sobriety exercises and also refused to provide breath samples. Deputies noted she stated she had been told by friends and social media not to perform field sobriety tests.

Mayer was arrested and charged with DUI, DUI with property damage, and refusing to submit to a DUI test. She was also cited for failure to drive in a single lane and open container within a vehicle. Nothing further at this time.
