Small Plane Flips During Emergency Landing Near Mulberry

A small plane crash near Mulberry on Friday night ended without injuries after the pilot safely landed the aircraft following engine trouble shortly after takeoff.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified of the crash at approximately 8:04 p.m. on May 8, 2026, west of Mulberry near State Road 60 and County Line Road.

Investigators said the pilot was the only person onboard the 1-seat fixed-wing aircraft. The plane had departed from South Lakeland Airport in Mulberry when it reportedly experienced engine trouble shortly after takeoff.

The pilot was able to locate a grassy area near the airport to attempt an emergency landing. After touching down, the aircraft flipped onto its top while slowing to a stop.

Deputies said the pilot was not injured in the incident.

PCSO units remained on scene Friday night and are notifying the appropriate agencies regarding the crash.
