Polk County Public Schools announced a new microschool learning opportunity that will launch at Philip O’Brien Elementary for the upcoming school year.
The new blended kindergarten and first grade program is being created through a partnership with WonderHere and Philip O’Brien Elementary. District officials said the program will be open to all Polk County families regardless of school zoning boundaries.

According to the announcement, the microschool program will focus on project-based and hands-on learning while offering gentle literacy and numeracy instruction in a small-group setting. The program will also include personalized support and parent partnership opportunities.
Officials said the program was designed to provide families with an additional educational option focused on experiential and relationship-centered learning during the early elementary years.
Enrollment for the program is limited and will be application-based. Families interested in applying can complete an application through the district’s online form.
An informational meeting for interested families is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, in the media center at Philip O’Brien Elementary, located at 1225 Lime Street in Lakeland.
Families with questions can contact program site director Sam Brown at sam@wonderhere.com.
