TAMPA, FL – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit has arrested Lavardis Howard, 29, an eight-time convicted felon, following an ongoing investigation into the Young Godz gang operating in the Grant Park area of Tampa.
Detectives identified Howard as the primary suspect in the investigation. He was released from Florida State Prison in October 2025.
On February 19, 2026, Howard was involved in a domestic incident, leading detectives to obtain an initial arrest warrant.
On February 24, 2026, Gang Unit detectives executed a search warrant at Howard’s residence in Tampa. During the search, authorities recovered:
- Two pistols, one of which was reported stolen out of Tampa
- Approximately two pounds of marijuana
- Multiple boxes of ammunition
- Mushrooms
- Marijuana wax
A second arrest warrant was obtained based on the findings. Howard was located and taken into custody on February 27, 2026, in Progress Village.
Howard now faces the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Felon in Possession of Ammunition (x3)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (x2)
- Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Sell, Manufacture or Deliver
- Possession of Cannabis (More than 20 Grams)
- Possession of Cannabis Sativa Resin
- Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell or Deliver (Schedule I) (x2)
- Possession of Cocaine
“This arrest is the result of proactive investigative work targeting gang activity in our community,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We will continue to pursue those who illegally possess firearms and distribute drugs in our neighborhoods. Our message is clear: if you are engaging in gang-related crime, we will find you and hold you accountable.”
