Winter Haven Woman Faces Multiple Felony Charges After Violent Domestic Incident

WINTER HAVEN, FL (March 3, 2026) — Early Monday morning, a domestic disturbance call involving possible gunfire escalated into a chaotic confrontation with police, leaving a 29-year-old woman facing a slew of serious felony charges, according to the Winter Haven Police Department.

At approximately 3:28 a.m. on March 2, officers responded to an apartment on Gowan Drive following a 9-1-1 report of a possible shooting. Projectiles were found outside the building, along with blood near a staircase. The male caller, who had sustained cutting injuries to his arm, reported a violent encounter with his girlfriend while two young children were present in the apartment. The children were unharmed, and the victim was treated and released at a local hospital. The children were safely placed with family members.

The investigation revealed that 29-year-old Unique Lashiah Isaac (DOB 10-16-96, of 3148 Gowan Dr., Winter Haven) had armed herself with a knife during the argument and cut the victim on the arm. The man left the apartment to distance himself, but upon returning to gather belongings and check on the children, Isaac confronted him with a firearm pointed at her own head. She then fired shots just outside the apartment before the victim managed to secure the weapon as she fled the scene, shortly before police arrived.

While officers attended to the victim and secured the children in a patrol vehicle, Isaac—covered in blood and identified as related to the children and a resident of the apartment—approached the marked unit. She was detained, handcuffed, and placed in the back of a separate patrol car.

Shortly afterward, Isaac escaped by slipping out of her handcuffs, sliding through the partition window, and exiting via the front passenger door. She fled on foot through the complex, ignoring multiple commands to stop. Officers caught up as she stumbled and fell. During the struggle to detain her, Isaac repeatedly reached for an officer’s holstered handgun and refused to release it despite verbal commands. Officers used strikes to her head to disorient her and deployed a Taser twice to gain compliance after initial effects wore off. Even while being re-secured with restraints, she continued resisting by grabbing at them. Leg restraints were eventually applied, and she was transported to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Polk County Jail.

“This was a very scary incident for our victim and the children,” said Police Chief Vance Monroe. “Our officers did everything they could to secure this woman, but her determination to flee and attempts to grab our officer’s weapon has racked up additional charges that should keep her locked away for a while.”

Isaac now faces the following charges:

  • One count of Domestic Battery with a Deadly Weapon (F2)
  • Escape (F2)
  • Two counts of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (F3)
  • Two counts of Resisting Arrest With Violence (F3)
  • Domestic Violence/Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill (F3)
  • Four counts of Resisting Arrest without Violence (M1)

The incident remains under investigation by the Winter Haven Police Department. Nothing further at this time.
