Bartow Brush Fire Burns 190 Acres, Prompts Road Closures

Polk County Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service jointly responded to a fast-moving vegetation fire located off County Road 640 and County Road 555 in Bartow.

The fire originated in a grassy former mine pit. PCFR crews quickly applied water to the blaze to control its spread.

As of 5:45 p.m., the fire had burned approximately 190 acres of grass and wooded area. No structures are currently threatened or in danger. One gooseneck trailer was destroyed in the fire.

Portions of County Road 640 and County Road 555 are currently closed. Authorities advise the public to avoid the area.
