40 Years Later, New DNA Evidence Results in Lake Wales Man’s Arrest for 1985 Murders

Lake Wales, Fla. (October 20, 2025) – On October 17, 2025, Lake Wales Police Department, in coordination with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the United States Marshals Service, arrested Troy Adam Thorne (DOB: 11/03/63), also known as Logan Sinclair, for the 1985 murders of Harvey and Margaret Bolser and arson at the Swan Apartments, 241 E. Seminole Avenue, Lake Wales.

On February 28, 1985, police discovered Harvey and Margaret Bolser dead inside an apartment rented by Thorne and Samuel Edward Jones (DOB: 06/26/60), which had been set on fire. Thorne and Jones were identified as suspects and went missing after the incident. Jones was arrested on March 8, 1985, and sentenced to life in prison, where he remains at Zephyrhills Correctional Institution. Thorne was arrested on March 12, 1985, but declared incompetent to stand trial and held under involuntary examination until 1993.

In 2022, Lake Wales detectives reopened the case, reviewing files, analyzing evidence, and conducting interviews. Using advanced forensic technology, original crime scene evidence was retested at the FDLE crime lab, yielding new DNA evidence. Investigators determined Thorne was living in Tampa, Florida, under a new identity, having obtained a driver’s license, a mortgage, married, fathered three children, maintained credit accounts, and filed police reports. In 1995, Thorne was arrested in Hillsborough County for retail theft, pleaded guilty, and served six months of probation.

On October 16, 2025, a Polk County Grand Jury indicted Thorne on two counts of first-degree premeditated murder and one count of arson. He was arrested at his Tampa residence on October 17, 2025, and is currently held without bond in the Polk County Jail. The case is active in the judicial system, and no further details are available at this time.
