LAKELAND, FL — A motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed on Kathleen Road died after failing to negotiate a curve and crashing Wednesday afternoon in Kathleen, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the crash at Kathleen Road and 1st Avenue NW at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Sept. 23. First responders found the 44-year-old Lakeland man with serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away.
According to the preliminary investigation by the PCSO Traffic Homicide Unit, the man was operating a 2002 white Honda motorcycle northbound on Kathleen Road when he failed to negotiate a curve and crashed.
Investigators said a helmet was found at the scene, but it remains unclear whether the motorcyclist was wearing it at the time of the crash. Kathleen Road was closed for approximately two hours while deputies investigated.
