LAKE WALES, FL — Three individuals were killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a passenger vehicle and a dump truck on State Road 60 near Lake Wales early Thursday morning, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The victims were a 31-year-old Auburndale woman who was driving the car, a 45-year-old Lake Wales man and a 40-year-old Lake Wales woman.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 4:22 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, to SR 60 at Acuff Road. When first responders arrived, two occupants of a black 2008 Chevrolet Malibu were found deceased inside the vehicle.
The 31-year-old driver was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Detectives said a black 2016 Kenworth dump truck was traveling west on SR 60 when the Malibu entered its path while pulling out from Acuff Road on the south side of the highway. The dump truck driver suffered minor injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office said no charges are anticipated, but the investigation remains ongoing. Westbound SR 60 was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation. Nothing further at this time.
