WINTER HAVEN, FL — The City of is offering a Floodplain Questions and Map Information Service to provide residents and stakeholders with details about properties located within city limits and their potential flood risks.
According to the city, the service includes information on whether properties are located in Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs), as well as guidance on flood-prone areas that require special protection due to their natural functions.
The information is particularly important for property owners who may be required to purchase flood insurance. Federal regulations mandate flood insurance for buildings located in SFHAs when financial assistance or loans are provided by federally regulated or insured institutions. This requirement also applies to loans purchased on the secondary mortgage market by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Residents or agencies seeking additional information can contact Assistant City Engineer and Floodplain Administrator Drew Morson by phone or email. Flood zone details are also available through Polk County’s online map viewer.
