Update on Deputy-Involved Shooting Involving Dog
The family has updated us on the condition of their 10-year-old pit bull, Draco, injured during an altercation with a Polk County Sheriff’s deputy on Sunday morning, April 13, 2025.
The family shared that the bullet that struck Draco damaged his kidney, requiring surgery, and caused fluid to accumulate in his lungs. Draco is not yet eating or walking. The family has launch a GoFundMe to cover medical expenses. (https://gofund.me/82805387 )
The incident occurred when Polk County deputies responded to a call about loose cows. A deputy shot Draco and accidentally wounded herself. The deputy is recovering, and the cows were returned to their owner.
