Sumter County, FL. — According to the Florida Highway Patrol, on August 25th at 1:50 PM, a collision occurred on SR-471 north of CR-788 involving two vehicles which resulted in serious injuries. A tractor-trailer, driven by a 39-year-old man from Orlando, was traveling northbound. A Chevrolet pickup, driven by a 64-year-old man from Mayo, was traveling southbound.
Traffic ahead of the tractor-trailer came to a stop, prompting the tractor-trailer to enter the northbound lane to avoid a collision.
The tractor-trailer then collided with the Chevrolet pickup. Both vehicles came to a final rest along the west shoulder of the highway.
The Chevrolet pickup’s driver and his passenger, a 63-year-old woman from Mayo, sustained serious injuries. Both were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The incident is under investigation by local authorities.
