Trump Threatens Elon Musk on Contracts, Musk Responds with Dragon Cancellation

Washington, D.C. – June 5, 2025 – In a shocking escalation of tensions with President Donald Trump, Elon Musk announced today that SpaceX will immediately begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft. The decision, shared via a post on X, follows Trump’s threat to cancel billions in government contracts and subsidies tied to Musk’s businesses.

Trump’s earlier X post suggested terminating these contracts to save “billions and billions” in the federal budget, a move he claimed the Biden administration should have made.

Musk’s decision threatens to disrupt NASA’s crewed missions to the International Space Station, as the Dragon spacecraft has been a cornerstone of SpaceX’s operations, backed by $38 billion in government funding since 2003. The fallout stems from Musk’s recent criticism of Trump’s tax and spending bill, which Musk called a “disgusting abomination” after leaving his role as a Trump administration adviser.

Despite Musk’s $277 million donation to Trump’s 2024 campaign, the public feud has sparked concern among Americans, with X users urging both leaders to resolve the conflict amid fears of broader implications for U.S. space exploration and national unity.
