Tire Blowout Causes Vehicle to Overturn on Polk Parkway

AUBURNDALE, FL – A rollover crash on the westbound Polk Parkway near the Braddock Road exit sent a 20-year-old college student to the hospital Saturday afternoon in Polk County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the student was driving home for Mother’s Day when the crash occurred near mile marker 20 after the vehicle reportedly suffered a tire blowout while traveling westbound on State Road 570. Troopers say the vehicle traveled onto the shoulder and struck the retaining wall at the Braddock Road overpass before spinning across the roadway.

During the crash sequence, the vehicle overturned after its wheels dug into the ground alongside the roadway

Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated the driver from the overturned vehicle. The student was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and their condition is currently unknown.

The Auburndale Fire Department responded with Battalion 420, Engine 421, Ladder 421, and Tender 421. Polk County Fire Rescue also assisted at the scene with a battalion chief and ambulance.

Traffic was impacted in the westbound lanes during the investigation and cleanup. The roadway has since reopened. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. Nothing further at this time.
