Florida’s recreational and commercial spiny lobster seasons in both state and federal waters will close today, April 1, according to The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The seasons are scheduled to reopen on Aug. 6. Officials also announced that the two-day recreational sport season will take place on the last Wednesday and Thursday of July. This year, those dates fall on July 29 and July 30.
The sport season, often referred to as a short preseason opportunity for recreational harvesters, occurs annually ahead of the regular season reopening in August.
Additional details on recreational spiny lobster regulations are available through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s website by navigating to the Saltwater Fishing section, then Recreational Regulations, followed by Crabs, Lobster and other Shellfish, and Lobster.
Information regarding commercial spiny lobster regulations can also be found on the same website under Saltwater Fishing, Commercial Regulations, and Lobster, Spiny.
Authorities encourage harvesters to review current regulations before participating in the upcoming seasons.
