Orlando, FL – On Thursday, January 1, 2026, at approximately 6:58 p.m., Orlando Police Department officers responded to a shooting at 1247 Kozart Street in Orlando, Florida. Officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
The victim was identified as Dennis Turner, born January 25, 1961, a retired Orlando Police Department officer who served for 23 years until his retirement in 2018.
Preliminary investigation determined the incident resulted from a family dispute. The suspect fled the scene.
The suspect, Jeffery Bernard London, born January 17, 1967, was located and arrested later that night by Highlands County Sheriff’s Office deputies. London’s vehicle was observed entering Highlands County from Polk County.
Deputies conducted a felony traffic stop on southbound US 27 near Grand Prix Drive in Sebring. London was taken into custody without incident and subsequently turned over to Orlando Police Department detectives.
London faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Nothing further at this time.
