AUBURNDALE, FL — Four people and their dogs were safely rescued early Tuesday morning after a vehicle caught fire in front of a home in the Berkley Point neighborhood of Auburndale.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 12:54 a.m. on July 21, Officer Hitchens with the Auburndale Police Department reported a parked vehicle on fire in front of a residence. Several Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies were already in the area and quickly responded. When they arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading dangerously close to the home.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies forced their way into the house to wake the sleeping residents. The deputies, four residents, and their dogs safely exited through the back of the home without injury.
The Auburndale Fire Department arrived shortly afterward and quickly extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Nothing further at this time.
