Polk County Sheriff Deputy Knocked Unconscious by Loose Longhorn Bull in Traffic

Lakeland, FL – A Polk County Sheriff’s deputy was injured after being knocked down by a loose longhorn bull near Combee Road South and Crystal Lake Drive North on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:28 p.m. following a livestock complaint about the bull running in and out of traffic.


The first deputy on the scene located the bull but was struck by the animal, hitting his head and possibly losing consciousness. A backup unit arrived one minute later and reported the injury. The deputy was promptly transported by ground to Lakeland Regional Health for treatment. Authorities have indicated that the deputy is expected to recover.


The bull’s owner was identified, and the animal was safely contained in a pasture near a local Dollar General store. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
