Kissimmee, FL – On August 3, 2025, at approximately 1:07 a.m., a deputy from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office observed Jakai Deron Goodwin, 20, of Orlando, Florida driving a black Dodge Journey following another vehicle too closely on Marigold Avenue. The deputy activated emergency lights to initiate a stop, but Goodwin failed to yield and fled at high speed, passing vehicles in no-passing zones, driving onto the shoulder, and passing on the right.
The pursuit ended when Goodwin entered a driveway at Manatee Drive, Kissimmee. He exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward a residence. The deputy made contact as Goodwin attempted to enter an open garage. During the arrest attempt, Goodwin struck the deputy in the chest and hands, pushed and swatted at the deputy’s hands, and resisted commands until secured in handcuffs. He continued to resist while being escorted to the patrol vehicle.

An FCIC/NCIC check revealed Goodwin’s license was suspended on March 20, 2025, for unpaid traffic citations, with two active suspensions and no prior DWLSR convictions. The vehicle had no valid insurance and was under a seize tag order. Goodwin admitted awareness of the insurance issue.
An inventory search of the vehicle prior to towing found a black Glock 21 Gen4, serial number AGKH014, with a loaded extended magazine containing 9 rounds, on the front passenger floorboard. A metal tray contained a green leafy substance and a mostly smoked hand-rolled marijuana cigar. A field test confirmed the cigar had over 1% delta-9 THC, while the leafy substance did not react. The firearm was not reported stolen, and Goodwin had no prior felony convictions.
