PCSO Cadet 1000 Program Information Session Scheduled for August

The Cadet 1000 law enforcement program is designed for students between the ages of 14 and 20 who are interested in any aspect of law enforcement, and allows the students to learn about law enforcement careers.

For parents and students who are interested in learning more, an information session about the program will be held at the Polk State College Center for Public Safety, 1251 Jim Keene Blvd. in Winter Haven, at 6:00 p.m. on August 6, 2025.

This program is affiliated with the Public Safety Cadets. The program is designed to develop self-esteem, discipline, good citizenship, and leadership, and to strengthen the partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and the youth of our communities.

The mission of Cadet Unit 1000 is to develop desirable qualities of character, and teach responsible citizenship and leadership, while introducing cadets to a career in law enforcement.

Cadets have the opportunity to learn almost every aspect of law enforcement. Subject topics include:

  • Fingerprinting
  • First Aid
  • Firearm Safety
  • Patrol Procedures
  • Vehicle Stops
  • Traffic Direction
  • Crisis Intervention

Cadet requirements are:

  • Must be resident of Polk County
  • Must maintain at least a C average in school
  • Must not have a criminal record
  • Must be of good moral character
  • Must be at least 14 years of age
  • Must have completed 8th grade
  • Must have a good school record
  • Must pass an oral review board
