Sumter County, FL. — A head-on collision on State Road 471 south of County Road 788 resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP reported that a Mercedes SUV, driven by a 24-year-old woman from Buena Park, California, was traveling southbound on SR-471 when, for unknown reasons, it entered the northbound lane. The vehicle collided nearly head-on with a northbound Nissan Titan towing an enclosed utility trailer, driven by a 26-year-old man from Lakeland.


Following the collision, the Mercedes came to rest along the east shoulder, and the Nissan came to rest in the northbound lane.
A 52-year-old female passenger from Lakeland, who was in the Mercedes, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes and a 54-year-old female passenger, also from Buena Park, sustained serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

The driver of the Nissan and a 57-year-old male passenger from Lakeland sustained minor injuries and were also transported for treatment.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
