Orlando, FL – On July 1, 1954, WDBO-TV, now known as WKMG-TV, commenced broadcasting operations as the first television station in Central Florida. Based in Orlando, the station transmitted its initial signal on channel 6, providing news, entertainment, and educational programming to households across the region.

WDBO-TV operated under the ownership of the Orlando Radio and Television Broadcasting Corporation at the time of its launch. The station’s debut marked the introduction of television services to Central Florida, enabling residents to access broadcast media locally for the first time. WDBO-TV later changed its call letters to WKMG-TV in 1982 and continues to serve the Orlando market as a CBS affiliate.
