LAKELAND, FL – Early Sunday morning at approximately 4:50 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol reported that a nine-vehicle crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 near the 33-milepost after a driver swerved to avoid a disabled vehicle in the roadway.
According to FHP, a vehicle swerved to avoid a disabled vehicle in the roadway, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving nine vehicles, including a motorcyclist. During the incident, a guardrail was struck, which contributed to the closure of all eastbound lanes.
Authorities reported that the roadway remained closed while crews responded to the scene and worked to clear the involved vehicles and assess the damage.

The incident was ultimately cleared and the roadway reopened at approximately 8:20 a.m.
Non-life-threatening injuries were reported as a result of the crash. No further details regarding those involved have been released at this time.
