Man Wanted in Plant City Murder Near I-4 Captured in Texas

PLANT CITY, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that left one man dead in Plant City.

According to investigators, the shooting stemmed from an earlier disturbance involving several individuals at a nearby bar. The individuals later encountered each other again at a gas station, where the situation escalated, leading to the shooting at the intersection of Branch Forbes Road and Interstate 4.

On March 23, 2026, detectives identified the suspect as 36-year-old Maico Carbajal, who had fled Hillsborough County and was traveling westbound on Interstate 10.

Law enforcement agencies across multiple states coordinated efforts to track Carbajal through Alabama and Louisiana into Texas. With assistance from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, Carbajal was located and taken into custody without incident.

Carbajal is currently being held at the Chambers County Jail in Anahuac, Texas, on an ICE detainer. He is facing a charge of First Degree Premeditated Murder and is awaiting extradition to Hillsborough County.

Sheriff Chad Chronister stated that detectives worked across state lines with partner agencies to ensure the suspect was apprehended and held accountable. Nothing further at this time.
