On July 29, 2025, at approximately 11:50 AM, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 12300 block of Baypointe Terrace. Upon arrival, deputies found Ian Douglas, 35, providing aid to his father, Andrew Douglas, 76, who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the neck.
Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Andrew Douglas was pronounced deceased at 12:20 PM.
Ian Douglas stated to deputies that the shooting occurred accidentally while he was showing his father a handgun. Following further investigation, detectives charged Ian Douglas with Manslaughter by Culpable Negligence. He was arrested and booked into the Manatee County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
