Lead Riders of Two Motorcycle Groups Collide Head-On in Polk City; Fatality Reported

Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Green Pond Road in Polk City

Polk City, FL — A motorcycle collision claimed the life of a 72 year old Mascotte man on Saturday morning, May 24, 2025, on Green Pond Road near San Juan Avenue in Polk City.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the incident, which occurred around 9:40 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, the deceased was leading a group of westbound motorcyclists on a Harley Davidson when he entered a right curve, drifted over the center line, and collided head-on with a Ducati ridden by a 61-year-old Tampa man leading an eastbound group of motorcyclists. Both riders were ejected upon impact.

Witnesses were performing CPR on the 72 year old when first responders arrived. Polk Fire Rescue continued life saving efforts, but the man, who was not wearing a helmet, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

The Ducati rider sustained serious injuries, including broken bones and a collapsed lung, and remains hospitalized.The Polk County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Nothing further at this time.
