Lakeland Considers School Zone Speed Cameras
In a story first covered by Beth Rousseau at WFLA, Lakeland city leaders took the first step toward approving school zone speed enforcement cameras on Monday as part of the city’s Vision Zero initiative to eliminate crashes causing death or serious injury.

The cameras are proposed for the following school zones:
- Lincoln Academy
- Crystal Lake Elementary/Middle
- Philip O’Brien Elementary
- Southwest Middle
- North Lakeland Elementary
- Lakeland High School
- Lakeland Highlands Middle
- Sleepy Hill Elementary

If approved, drivers exceeding the speed limit by 10 mph (30 minutes before and after school hours) would face a $100 fine.
Last year, Lakeland’s red light cameras recorded 60,000 violations, highlighting the need for enhanced traffic safety measures. Nothing further at this time
