DeLand, FL — A 27-year-old Lakeland man is back in the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond tonight after the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said he continued contacting a teenage girl following his initial arrest.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office announced Joseph William Danger Woodard’s first arrest on Aug. 1, after deputies said he traveled to a home north of DeLand to meet a 16-year-old girl he had met on Snapchat.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Woodard showed up uninvited at the girl’s home twice. During the second incident, the girl was sleeping when she woke up to a window rattling and saw Woodard outside. When she opened the door to show him she was calling for help, Woodard allegedly placed his foot in the doorway before she was able to close it.
Deputies said Woodard then fired multiple gunshots into the ground outside the home and fled in a red Toyota hatchback. The girl was not injured.
Within 22 minutes, deputies located Woodard’s vehicle approximately 11 miles away. Investigators reported finding two 9mm handguns, approximately 350 rounds of ammunition, six Glock pistol magazines and seven spent shell casings inside the vehicle. Another spent casing was found in the driveway.
Woodard was initially charged with stalking, armed trespassing, discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, discharge of a firearm on residential property and resisting.
The Sheriff’s Office later announced that Woodard was wanted for aggravated stalking after investigators said he continued contacting the juvenile victim from jail despite a no-contact order. Woodard allegedly mailed letters using his cellmate’s name in an attempt to circumvent the order. The letters reportedly contained graphic content and romantic language directed at the teenager.
Woodard bonded out of jail on Aug. 19 after approximately two-and-a-half weeks in custody.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office has since announced that Woodard turned himself in on the aggravated stalking charge. He is now back in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond. Nothing further at this time.
