KISSIMMEE, FL — The City of Kissimmee Fire Department held a historic Promotional and New Hire Swearing-In Ceremony on April 16, 2026, administering the oath to 33 members as it prepares to launch its first ever D-Shift under a new 24/72 work schedule. The new schedule takes effect April 25, 2026.

The ceremony included 18 promotions, eight to lieutenant and ten to engineer, along with 15 firefighters who completed their orientation program.

Fire Chief Jim Walls thanked the City Commission, department management, staff, and the community for their support.

“We reaffirm our continued commitment to professional development, safety, and preparedness,” Chief Walls said. “As our community grows, we are investing in our staff, ensuring that we have the right personnel and support to serve the residents of Kissimmee.”

The transition to the 24/72 schedule follows a staffing study and the annual Fire Service Assessment, which included public hearings. Officials said the process was conducted with transparency and in compliance with Florida law.

The changes are part of ongoing efforts to maintain appropriate staffing levels while supporting personnel well-being, recovery, and emergency preparedness.
