FORT MEADE, FL – Polk County Fire Rescue crews responded yesterday to a report of an unexploded ordnance in Fort Meade after a group of children discovered a military training grenade while playing in an open lot.
PCFR personnel promptly secured the area to ensure public safety. The State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad was called in to investigate and safely retrieve the device. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the response.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities have not released additional details about the grenade’s origin or condition.
