The Jewett Middle Academy team placed first at the Ridge Chapter MathCounts competition. The event occurred last Saturday at All Saints Academy in Winter Haven, Florida. It included nearly 100 students from public, charter, and private schools in Polk County.
The Lawton Chiles Middle Academy team placed second. The McKeel Academy of Technology team placed third.
Will Campbell from McKeel Academy and Anna Groseclose from All Saints Academy were the top individual performers.
The Jewett Middle Academy team members are Alavi Azmain, Gabriel Brown, Elena Del Rio, Kevin Wang, Oliver Zheng, with coach Alicia Donald.
The Jewett Middle Academy and Lawton Chiles Middle Academy teams advance to the MathCounts state competition in Daytona next month.
The MathCounts Competition Series involves more than 100,000 students nationwide each year. It focuses on building confidence and problem-solving skills and prepares students for success in STEM careers.
