Haines City High School Teacher Arrested for Methamphetamine Possession at Winter Haven Park

A Haines City High School World History teacher has been arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine while at a Winter Haven Park after hours.

On May 27, 2025 at approximately 10:01 p.m., Winter Haven officers were
patrolling the parks as a proactive patrol. * Note – all City parks are closed between sunset and dawn. Proactive patrols are conducted to ensure the parks are not being utilized for illegal activity. Officers encountered a red Toyota Prius parked at Lyons Park., located at 800 Ave. L SW in Winter Haven.

The vehicle was occupied by 54 year-old Shane Christopher Olson (DOB 10-01-70). When officers approached the vehicle, Olson stated that he was unaware he was not
supposed to be in the park after hours. He stated he pulled over to the location to use his phone because he didn’t want to text and drive. He also stated that he was there smoking something that had been given to him by some friends.

The officers observed the pipe that Olson was smoking from and the contents
were tested. The test was positive for the presence of methamphetamine. An
additional search of the vehicle was conducted and an additional vial with a
white crystal-like substance was located along with another container inside of a black bag along with two other pipes. All pipes and containers tested positive for Methamphetamine.


Olson was taken into custody and booked into the Polk County Jail for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Smoking Device.
