LAKELAND, FL – More than $182,000 in grant funding has been awarded to 32 nonprofit organizations across Polk, Highlands, and Hardee counties through the 2026 Empower Hardee, Highlands & Polk grant cycle administered by GiveWell Community Foundation.
A total of $182,309 was distributed to help nonprofits improve efficiency and long-term sustainability through capacity-building projects, including technology upgrades, staff development, training, and facility improvements. Since the program launched in 2018, GWCF has awarded more than $1 million in Empower grants to local organizations.
“Empower grants play a vital role helping local nonprofits make important improvements that might not otherwise be possible,” said GWCF President and CEO Callie Neslund.
Several organizations received funding for projects aimed at strengthening services in the community. The Champion for Children Foundation of Highlands County, Inc. will upgrade conferencing technology for training and family workshops, while ConnectED will expand career exploration opportunities through virtual field trips for students.
The Hardee Help Center will purchase updated computers and security equipment, and The Salvation Army – West Polk County will provide additional staff training for those assisting homeless families.

Meanwhile, Theatre Winter Haven will enhance its Ritz Theatre Kid’s Club childcare program with safety upgrades, furnishings, and activities.
Funding for the grant cycle comes entirely from donations made by GWCF supporters and community members. Since its founding in 1997, the foundation has awarded more than $525 million in grants to nonprofit organizations.
