Fugitive Convicted Felon Captured After Two-Year Manhunt in Winter Haven

A convicted felon, on the run for over two years on a warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder, is now behind bars after Winter Haven officers located him at Abbey Lane Apartments.

On August 1, 2025, at approximately 8:19 p.m., officers responded to Abbey Lane Apartments (100 Evergreen Place, Winter Haven) regarding an individual with an active warrant. Upon arrival, officers observed 27-year-old D’Architray L. Sapp (DOB 11-14-97, 906 Evergreen Place SW, Winter Haven) near Building 9. When Sapp saw the officers, he fled into an apartment to evade law enforcement. Officers confirmed his presence inside and evacuated innocent occupants from the apartment. As Sapp exited, officers immediately made contact, securing both of his hands behind his back.

While officers attempted to handcuff Sapp, he pulled his arms forward and began to run. During his escape, he intentionally collided with a female officer, shoving her with his shoulder and knocking her to the ground. Sapp continued to flee, ignoring lawful commands to stop. Two officers deployed their agency-issued Tasers, successfully making contact and enabling Sapp’s apprehension. The officer knocked to the ground was not injured during the encounter.

Sapp was transported to Winter Haven Hospital for medical clearance following the Taser deployment, per standard procedure, and then transferred to the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center.

Sapp, who had three active warrants out of Polk County, faces charges of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (F3) and Resisting Arrest Without Violence (M1). He was also charged in connection with the three warrants, which include Attempted First Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Fleeing to Elude, Providing False Information to Law Enforcement, Driving with a Suspended License, and Criminal Mischief.

“I am thankful our officers were not injured during this encounter with a violent felon,” said Police Chief Vance Monroe. “Our officers did an outstanding job ensuring Sapp was taken off the streets and placed behind bars where he belongs.”
