Polk County Men Arrested for Racing at 130 MPH on I-4

Polk County, FL — Two Polk County men were arrested early Sunday Morning, for racing at speeds near 130 mph on I-4.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the cars were spotted by the Tampa Police Department’s Aviation Unit. FHP intercepted the vehicles, arrested the drivers, and impounded their cars for 30 days. In a recent X post, FHP warned: ‘The roads are not racetracks.

The vehicles were impounded for 30 days under Florida Statute 316.191, which mandates seizure for vehicles used in illegal street racing, defined as operating a motor vehicle in a competitive attempt to outdistance another on public roads. This law aims to deter reckless driving that endangers public safety.
