Spring Hill, FL – On October 6, 2025, at approximately 3:02 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of possible child abuse at a local daycare involving an 11-year-old child with disabilities and an employee, Kaitlyn Pitzer, 36.
Surveillance video from the classroom showed Pitzer, with another aide, attempting to bandage the child’s forehead while the child sat on the floor. Pitzer pushed the child’s forehead, causing the child’s body to jerk backward. At 3:06 p.m., Pitzer taunted the child with cake, and after the child swiped icing, she smeared icing on the child’s face, rubbed fallen icing on the child’s forehead, and forcefully wiped the child’s face with a wet paper towel, causing visible distress. At 3:08 p.m., Pitzer applied hand sanitizer to the child’s open arm wounds, prompting the child to run across the classroom.
The child’s parent, after viewing the video, reported that the force used could have caused serious injury due to the child’s medical conditions and noted that healing wounds began bleeding again post-incident.
Detectives interviewed Pitzer at her Hernando County residence. She admitted to being frustrated, knowing the hand sanitizer would cause pain, and finding it “funny” to smear cake on the child’s face. Pitzer was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse, with a bond set at $5,000. She was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center.
