According to a family member of a player on one of the teams, the incident stemmed from escalating tensions during the game. One team was leading, which reportedly frustrated the opposing team.

The pitcher from the trailing team, upset by the opposing team’s loud chanting and energetic dugout, refused to pitch until the noise stopped.

The coach of the leading team consulted with the umpire, who confirmed that the chanting was permissible until the pitcher set, as allowed by the rules.

The coach then instructed their players to continue chanting. The coach of the trailing team, disagreeing with this decision, allegedly shouted profanities, spat in the opposing coach’s face, and initiated a physical confrontation by throwing a punch.

We have reached out to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for comment on this matter and will provide an update at a later time.
