Pierson, FL. — According to the Florida Highway Patrol, on July 19, 2025, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a fatal crash occurred on U.S. 17 south of State Road 40 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The incident, investigated by Trooper Sprague and Corporal Barrack, involved a 2020 Honda Civic and a 2001 International 4700 truck.
The Honda Civic, driven by a 16-year-old female from Pierson, was traveling northbound on U.S. 17. The truck, driven by a 34-year-old male from Pierson, was traveling southbound. The Civic attempted to pass traffic and entered the southbound lane, directly into the path of the truck, resulting in a head-on collision.
The 16-year-old driver of the Civic was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 34-year-old driver of the truck was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in critical condition. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. The next of kin for the deceased driver has been notified.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
