TAMPA, FL – Tuesday, February 24,2026 – A fatal crash occurred on the northbound I-275 exit ramp to eastbound I-4 at approximately 7:45 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 65-year-old man from Clearwater was traveling northbound on the exit ramp. Ahead of it was a Mazda SUV driven by a 21-year-old woman from Thonotosassa, also traveling northbound.
The driver of the pickup suffered a medical emergency and lost control, causing the pickup to strike the rear of the SUV. The pickup then continued forward, struck a guardrail multiple times, and became wedged between two concrete traffic barriers.
The driver of the pickup was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the SUV was able to bring it to a controlled stop with no injuries reported.
