Fatal Head-On Crash Leaves One Dead, Four Seriously Injuried

On August 2, 2025, at 4:10 AM, a collision occurred on State Road 44 at Tomahawk Trail in Volusia County, Florida, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) press release. The crash involved a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 (Vehicle 1) traveling eastbound and a 2015 Dodge Charger (Vehicle 2) traveling westbound.

The driver of Vehicle 1, a 43-year-old male from DeLand, Florida, sustained serious injuries and was transported to AdventHealth DeLand. The driver of Vehicle 2, an 18-year-old male from Fruitland Park, Florida, along with two rear passengers—a 17-year-old female from Leesburg, Florida, and an 18-year-old male from Fruitland Park, Florida—were transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with serious injuries. A 17-year-old female front passenger in Vehicle 2 from Leesburg, Florida, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The seatbelt status for the passengers in Vehicle 2 is unknown.

The front right of Vehicle 1 struck the front right of Vehicle 2. The sequence of events leading to the crash remains under investigation by FHP Trooper McKenzie and Corporal Swisher.
