Fatal Crash on US-301 in Summerfield Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

Summerfield, FL. — A tragic collision on US-301 south of SE 180th Street claimed the life of a 38-year-old Summerfield man on June 1, 2025, at approximately 6:05 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident involved two vehicles traveling southbound in the inside lane. A Volkswagen Jetta, driven by the Summerfield man, was moving at a high rate of speed when it attempted to overtake a Dodge Charger driven by a 51-year old Ocala man.

The Jetta collided with the Charger’s front right side, causing both vehicles to veer into the center median. The Jetta overturned multiple times, ejecting the driver, who suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Charger and a 51-year-old Ocala woman, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries. Emergency responders transported them to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, including the role of speed in the incident. US-301 was temporarily closed in the area as first responders cleared the scene. The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
