A 2025 Hyundai Elantra and a 2017 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer were traveling southbound on Florida’s Turnpike south of Hancock Road at approximately mile marker 279. The Freightliner was ahead of the Hyundai Elantra and was slowing down due to traffic ahead. The driver of the Hyundai Elantra failed to reduce speed, resulting in the front of the Hyundai Elantra striking the rear of the Freightliner.
The driver of the Hyundai Elantra was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger in the Hyundai Elantra was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured and remained at the scene. The crash is currently under investigation by authorities.
