Arrests Made in Eagle Lake Shooting Incident
March 17, 2025 –The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two suspects following a shooting incident near the Eagle Hammock neighborhood in Eagle Lake on March 16, 2025. Evan Thompson, 21, and Devon Mailhot, 22, both face two counts of Discharge of a Firearm from a Motor Vehicle (F-2). We will update this story as more information becomes available.

03/16/2025 (12 PM) Polk County Sheriff’s Office Statement:
We responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Golden Beak Drive, Eagle Lake. A witness reported seeing a black Ford F-150 truck turn its headlights off as it drove through Eagle Lake. No reported injuries or damage.
Other witnesses reported seeing a black F-150 doing “burnouts” in the parking lot of the RaceTrac in Eagle Lake. We later located the truck at the RaceTrac on Hwy 540 and Thornhill Rd.
The truck was occupied by four subjects and they were detained without incident.
We are investigating & we will likely make arrests.

Eye in the Sky News was on the scene at the Racetrack on 540 and Thornhill, where our team spoke with Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were observed questioning a suspect linked to an early morning shooting near the Eagle Hammock neighborhood in Eagle Lake on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
According to witnesses, the suspect fired a gun toward the ground during the incident at the Eagle Hammock neighborhood. It remains unclear whether the suspect was taken into custody at the Racetrack itself. Unknown Injuries.
