Eagle Lake Woman, 54, Fatally Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash in Davenport

DAVENPORT, FL — A 54-year-old Eagle Lake woman was killed Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on Ronald Reagan Parkway near Portofino Way in the Davenport area.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the crash at approximately 12:16 p.m. on August 7. Investigators said a 2022 GMC Terrain and a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder were both traveling in the inside westbound lane of Ronald Reagan Parkway before the collision.

A witness told investigators the Pathfinder began moving into the outside lane before suddenly swerving back to the left and striking the side of the Terrain. The vehicles separated before colliding a second time, causing both to leave the roadway in different directions.

The Pathfinder struck an oak tree head-on on the north side of Ronald Reagan Parkway, while the Terrain struck another oak tree head-on on the south side. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals. The 54-year-old woman driving the Terrain suffered head trauma and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The Pathfinder driver, identified by PCSO as a 31-year-old man from Haiti, suffered minor injuries. The crash shut down Ronald Reagan Parkway in both directions for approximately three hours while PCSO Traffic Homicide detectives investigated.

The Sheriff’s Office said no criminal charges are anticipated in connection with the crash, although the investigation remains ongoing. The Pathfinder driver was taken into custody and is being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
