April 17, 2025 – Winter Haven, FL – Draco, a 10-year-old dog, is recovering well at home after being shot by a deputy during a call about loose cows. Draco underwent major surgery at Veterinary Healthcare Associates (3025 Dundee Rd, Winter Haven, FL 33884), involving the removal of his kidney, spleen, and genitals, and diaphragm repairs.
He’s now eating, walking normally, and on medications for pain and infection prevention. Draco’s siblings, still at school and unaware of his return, have been asking about him every day. They will be overjoyed to see him when they return home from school.
Initially estimated at $7,000, the vet bill reached $11,000. Community donations raised $3,400, and Veterinary Healthcare Associates generously covered the remaining balance, leaving the family with no costs. The family is deeply grateful to the vet and supporters. Nothing further at this time.
