Citrus County, FL – The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is grieving the sudden loss of School Resource Officer Marcial Rodriguez, known affectionately as Deputy Rod, who passed away unexpectedly on October 24, 2025, shortly after completing his shift. Deputy Rodriguez, badge number 301, had been a dedicated member of the sheriff’s office since August 21, 2000.

Deputy Rodriguez was a cornerstone of the community, serving with distinction in various roles during his 25-year career. Beginning as a Deputy Sheriff, he later became a detective, working as both a Community Crimes Detective and a Domestic Violence Detective before transitioning to a School Resource Officer in 2018. Letters from students and community leaders praised his positive energy, humor, and willingness to help. One former student wrote, “You have helped me through a lot of hard life situations. You are a good dude and willing to help anyone at any time.” His dedication was evident in actions like assisting crossing guards during bad weather and engaging students in meaningful discussions about serious topics such as alcohol and drug use.

“Marcial was more than just an officer; he was a trusted mentor for countless young people, a beloved member of our family, and a friend,” said Sheriff David Vincent. “His legacy is one of professionalism and kindness, a true testament to his character and compassion.”

Deputy Rodriguez is survived by his wife, Carol, and their sons, Isaiah and Josiah. The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the Rodriguez family and asks the community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.
