AUBURNDALE, FL — A child was run over by a riding lawn mower in a horrific accident Wednesday afternoon in Auburndale and was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
Auburndale Fire and Police departments arrived at the scene on Walnut Street at approximately 12:45 p.m. First responders treated the child, who was declared a trauma alert following the accident. Auburndale Police told Eye In The Sky News the child suffered serious injuries.
A somber scene unfolded in the neighborhood as concerned neighbors looked on while first responders worked to assist the child. Our News reporter witnessed authorities rush the child by ambulance from the scene to a landing zone at the ballpark near Cross Street and 2nd Street, where a Tampa General Medical helicopter was waiting.
The helicopter remained at the landing zone for some time before departing with the child. Auburndale Police told our reporter that the incident is not being investigated as a crime at this time and no further information is being released.
The condition of the child is unknown. It remains unclear how the accident occurred. Our thoughts and prayers are with the child and their family during this difficult time.
