Avon Park, FL – On Sunday, November 2, 2025. – A 49-year-old Avon Park man was arrested and charged with attempted murder after stabbing his mother multiple times.
Highland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home on West Lacey Street around 8:40 a.m. following a 911 call. They found the 66-year-old victim sitting outside in a chair, bleeding from approximately 10 stab wounds. The victim stated her son stabbed her during an argument. She was airlifted to a trauma center and is expected to recover.
The knife used in the stabbing was recovered from a trash can outside the residence.
Deputies located Fredrick Burns III walking at the intersection of South Carolina Avenue and East Booker Street. He was taken into custody without incident at 10:10 a.m. Burns was charged with attempted homicide and tampering with evidence.
