FWC Offers License-Free Fishing Days for Florida Anglers

Tampa, FL – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is reeling in new and seasoned anglers with its license free fishing days, a perfect chance to enjoy Florida’s world-class fishing without needing a license.

Whether you’re a beginner, teaching a young angler, or introducing a friend to the sport, these days make it easy to cast a line in the Sunshine State’s vibrant waters.

On license-free fishing days, the FWC waives the fishing license requirement for all recreational anglers, including both residents and non-residents. This applies to freshwater and saltwater fishing, as well as activities like crabbing, lobstering, and scalloping. No snook or spiny lobster permits are required on these days either. However, all other regulations—such as seasons, bag limits, and size restrictions—remain in place to ensure sustainable fishing practices.

When Can You Fish License-Free?

  • Freshwater Fishing:
    • First consecutive Saturday and Sunday in April
    • Second consecutive Saturday and Sunday in June (that’s June 14-15, 2025!)
  • Saltwater Fishing:
    • First consecutive Saturday and Sunday in June (June 7-8, 2025)
    • First Saturday in September
    • Saturday following Thanksgiving

These FWC-sponsored days are designed to promote outdoor recreation and make fishing accessible to everyone. Whether you’re exploring a local lake or heading out to the Gulf or Atlantic, there’s no better time to enjoy the thrill of the catch.
