Two Motorcyclists Injured After Striking Alligator on I-4 in Orange City

Orange City, FL — A crash involving two motorcyclists and an alligator occurred yesterday evening on Interstate 4 in Orange City, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At approximately 6:08 p.m., a 67 year old man from DeLeon Springs riding a 2022 Suzuki GSX-R1000R and a 25 year old woman from Orange City on a 2021 Kawasaki Ninja 650 were traveling westbound in the inside lane near mile marker 110. The riders struck an alligator in the roadway, causing both to lose control and veer off the highway to the left.

The Suzuki motorcycle entered a wooded area and collided with a tree. Both riders sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital for treatment.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to assist with the injured alligator. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Nothing further at this time.
